Singapore, 1 March 2022 – Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) partners GetDoc, launching a research study on digital retina photography. They are seeking anyone above the age of 40 and not under the care of an ophthalmologist to volunteer in the Al fundus eye imaging research at SERI Clinic, 7th Floor SNEC Building, Third Hospital Avenue.

Fundus eye pictures can help detect common eye conditions such as cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. These eye conditions if left undetected and untreated are the leading causes of blindness.

Furthermore, not only is the fundus photo an insight into eye conditions, it is also a non-invasive screening mode with the ability to reveal risk of coronary artery disease which may lead to stroke, heart attack etc.

The health screening process involves taking photographs through the pupil, with a special camera, of the back of the eye, the fundus. Doctors can use observations made from the fundus and it’s blood vessels for analysis by Artificial Intelligence, leading to diagnoses for both eye and heart diseases.
