Dr Kan Yuk Man is a Senior Consultant Surgeon who has developed an expertise over many years in the field of Upper GI, Bariatric and General Surgery focusing specifically on minimally invasive surgery (MIS) with the technique of keyhole surgery. He graduated from The University of Manchester Medical School, United Kingdom in 1993 and after obtaining his Fellowship from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS) in 1997 he then embarked on higher surgical training in the Cambridge region at Addenbrookes Hospital, UK. Most notably are his post-graduate Senior Surgical Fellowships which he undertook at world renown centers - the National Cancer Centre and the Cancer Institute (Tokyo, Japan), Prince of Wales Chinese University Hospital (Hong Kong) and Princess Alexandra Hospital (Brisbane, Australia). During this period he mastered the techniques of keyhole surgery for oesophageal cancers and MIS for benign oesophageal disease. He joined Alexandra Hospital, Singapore in 2010 as the clinical lead in Upper GI Surgery and continued his focus of MIS in General Surgery, Oesophageal and Gastric cancers. He also led the Trauma and Bariatric Surgical Services at Alexandra Hospital and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and developed a multidisciplinary team approach for both areas. He continues to be a Visiting Senior Consultant at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Changi General Hospital, Committee Member of the Singapore Chapter of Endoscopic & Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA), and was previously the appointed Auditor of the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society of Singapore (OMSSS). Dr Kan has presented in many international conferences stretching from the USA, UK, Europe and Asia. Throughout his career, he is a passionate educator and he has been elected onto several national committees in the UK — Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT), Association of Laparoscopic Surgeon of Great Britain & Ireland (ALS) and East Anglian HST Training Committee. He is regularly invited as faculty for surgical workshops around the region (Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines & Thailand) and he is also an instructor for the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course.
