Professional Statement
A/Prof Mark LC Khoo (ENT Specialist) educated in Anglo-Chinese School and Hwa Chong Junior College, Dr Khoo graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1990. After completing his internship and National Service, he joined Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) in 1993 and began specialty training in Otolaryngology (ENT). He passed his fellowship exams in 1995 and was subsequently appointed registrar in 1996, associate consultant in 1999, consultant in 2001 and senior consultant in 2006.
His love for Head and Neck Surgery began early, inspired greatly by his mentor Prof. Soo Khee Chee (Director, National Cancer Centre, Singapore). With the blessings of TTSH, Dr Khoo had the good fortune of operating with Prof. Soo in SGH once a week for 5 years from 1995 to 1999. Simultaneously, he started the first dedicated cancer service for head and neck cancer patients in TTSH in 1996. This critical and formative 5 year period set the foundation for his practice today.
In August 1999, Dr Khoo left for Toronto, Canada to complete a 2 year fellowship in Advanced Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery under the auspices of the American Head and Neck Society. To date, he remains one of only a handful of people in Singapore to have completed the official American head and neck surgery fellowship programme.
Upon returning to Singapore in 2001, Dr Khoo was appointed Chief of the head and neck service in TTSH, as well as visiting consultant to the National Cancer Centre Singapore, both appointments he continues to hold today. In 2007, he was amongst the founding faculty of the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School where he is currently Adjunct Associate Professor.
Dr Khoo is highly regarded as a head and neck surgical oncologist. He is also widely published in international journals in the field of head and neck cancer and has authored several notable articles on nasopharyngeal cancer and thyroid cancer. He has won several awards including a National Day Award (Pingkat Kepujian) and Courage Award for his work during the SARS crisis.
Dr Khoo is married to May, an anaesthesiologist and they have 3 children, a boy and twin girls. In his spare time, he enjoys tennis, golf and fishing.
Our vision is to be the first private ENT group in Singapore with true subspecialty care. We see this as paramount to advance the level of ENT care in the private sector to help maintain Singapore’s leading position as a healthcare hub in the region.
In setting up Amandela ENT, our aim is to establish an ENT subspeciality group practice where patients will be taken care of by the most appropriate subspecialist for their condition, thus ensuring their best possible care. “Aman” in Hebrew means “believe” (Gen 15:6) and “dell” is a “place of peace”, and our aim is to provide “subspecialty care you can trust”.
