Is Health Screening (Really) That Important? | GetDocSays

Did you know? It is recommended for people as young as 18 to start going for a health screen. Health screening to some people might sound like a chore, however, the benefits it provides might save you one day.

Why should I go for a health screening?

“I am feeling healthy, why do I need to do it?” This is a very common excuse people tend to use when asked if they go for health screens. That is, but, not a good reason. The stark anwer simply is this fact, your health can’t wait!

Many conditions have symptoms that are hard to detect, until in the advanced stage. That is why many people are walking around unaware that silent killers are lurking around in their system. Or a brewing health catastrophe waiting to blow up.

It is always better to get a screen to detect any condition early so as to receive early treatment for better outcomes. Better be safe than sorry.

Get Checked before Complications Strike

Health screenings consist of a series of tests. Each test detects one or more underlying conditions in the patient’s body. Doctors are then able to proceed to do diagnostic tests which will determine the condition if there is any abnormality during the screen.

Uncovering problems before it is too late has proven to save lives. As a matter of fact, many cancers can be stopped in its track by timely screening. These include breast cancer, colorectal cancer, cervical cancer, aggressive prostate cancer and skin cancer.

Picking up and managing high blood pressure before further damage to your system saves you a lifetime of pain.

Similarly, life threatening health issues such as heart attacks and strokes may be averted if the signs are picked up before they strike. Early detection of serious diseases such as heart failure, stroke and kidney disease through early treatment reduces suffering and prevents complications.

What should I expect during health screening?

Different types of health screening are recommended to different age groups. Refer to this table for an easy reference to your age group.
