Covid-19 vaccination is now available. Questions pop up: Do we need to still wear masks? Continue to social distance and observe rigorous hand hygiene?
Yes you do!! Here’s why:
Vaccine research trial studies measure whether people who receive vaccination develop symptoms, not whether they have the virus infection. We also know that the virus can infect but you remain without symptoms or asymptomatic. So, you may have received the vaccination but you may still carry the virus and have no symptoms at all. Although the virus does no harm to you because you have the protection from vaccination but that does not prevent you from infecting others.
Take precautions even after Covid-19 vaccination
People will still need to practise the usual precautions of mask wearing, social distancing and hand hygiene to control virus transmission. We can only return to a more normal state when herd immunity is achieved which is only when vaccination covers 65-70% of the population.
