Did you know that 85% of New Year resolutions revolve around health. Take for instance, resolutions such as running more, eating better and quitting smoking. It’s easy to start but consistency is a whole other ball game. More often than not, we lose motivation to press on with our goals. Sometimes all it takes is one missed gym session to go off the rails. Twenty per cent of individuals are thought to have given up or failed at resolutions one week into the new year.
But like the title says, #restartmonday is here.
Support New Year’s Resolutions Whole Year Long
The Monday Campaigns’ Healthy Monday Reset initiative supports New Year’s resolutions throughout the year. The program provides weekly reminders to reinforce habits and actions that can prevent heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and other debilitating chronic health conditions.
It’s interesting how they’ve got these different programs covering The “Monday Cues” circulated by the nonprofit groups. These programs can range from reminders to practice deep breathing for 5 to 8 minutes, to combat stress as well as recipes for meatless meals and encouragement to increase exercise such as running a “Monday Mile.”
The weekly Monday “resets” are especially useful following weeks where diet, exercise, and wellness goals may have gone unmet.
Why Monday you might ask ?
Health-related Google searches peak after the weekend, according to researchers. People are more likely to begin new diets and exercise routines, or take positive health steps like quitting smoking or scheduling doctor’s appointments on Mondays than on any other day. This observation is according to The Monday Campaigns. a public health initiative associated with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, and the Maxwell School of Syracuse University.
Beginning the week with healthy behaviors helps to support good intentions throughout the week, according to research from the Data Decisions Group. Furthermore, Mondays are also a cultural concept. Individuals view it as a new beginning, a restart button. There is a percentage of people who view Mondays as something to dread, but also many who see it as an opportunity to get back on track.
Everyday is a New Day
Everyday is a new day to start over. I hope we just don’t wait for the New Year and well, Mondays to make changes in our lives. Everyday is an opportunity to begin again. I hope we grasp everyday as a chance to make better decisions for our health, to be better individuals.
