Practitioner Profile

Dr Hemalatha Nathan graduated in 1976 from the University of Singapore (now National University of Singapore), has a postgraduate Diploma in Preventive Dentistry & Public Health from the University of Sydney (1982); and is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1991). She has 40 years of experience working as a dentist in the public & private sectors, and teaching both dental undergraduates and oral health therapists. She helped with starting up and overseeing the course for oral health therapists.

Her passion is the provision of holistic and practical dentistry for all. She believes strongly in dental health education and making patients fully aware of their oral condition. This helps patients not only to make the right decision about their treatment but also provides the knowledge and ability to keep their oral health in sound condition.

Besides teaching students and managing patients, Dr Hema is also involved in committees like the Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry workgroup and Oral Health Therapists Accreditation Committee of the Singapore Dental Council.

She is choosing to work part-time in Smile Makers Dental Clinic because she feels that the philosophy of optimum, relevant care practised by the members of this clinic matches her own values of providing comprehensive care customised to the patient.

Due to her teaching commitments, Dr. Hema is only available on Saturdays, strictly by appointment.
